By introducing the element of play into the gallery, this work constructs a "miniature theatre" of power shifts and the cycles of warfare. The audience's intervention activates the role of the 'player', allowing the artistic narrative to reach completion through the attrition of the match. The frosted surface of the base predefines a selective blind spot: as the players immerse themselves in the strategic deduction of the game, the miniature individuals encapsulated beneath their feet are structurally ignored. Only when the gaze shifts to the transparent facets of the sides does the "human foundation" that supports the game’s existence reveal itself.
The chess grid is laid with loose bone char and wood ash, upon which stainless steel empty chairs suggest the eternity of positions amidst the flux of their occupants. As the pieces move across the board, the once-distinct boundaries of black and white gradually collapse under the agitation of the powder, ultimately collapsing into a chaotic and homogenous grey. This displacement not only unearths the buried individuals but also reveals that any expansion of power is predicated on the possession and consumption of others. When the board is finally reduced to a ruin-like gloom, this theatre of consumption reaches its finale, awaiting the next reconstruction of order and its inevitable collapse.
